On
September 22, we celebrated the
beginning of Fall. We talked
about the changes that would soon be
coming and how the daytime would be
the same length as the nighttime
(for that one day). Gabriel
and I studied why leaves change,
what happens to different insects
and animals during colder weather,
and how all these things were
created by God to do exactly what
they do.
Sonny commented several times about
how he loves this time of year with
the cool breezes and the hint of
winter in the air. He
reminisced about his high school
football days and how much he
enjoyed the game. I thought
back about riding in the car with my
parents as we looked at the changes
in the leaves and how fun it was to
change from summer t-shirts to fall
sweaters. All the colors are
different, from leaves to clothing.
I love it! I just love how God
planned all the seasons and I'm
amazed at how it all works together
to help the earth replenish itself.
Our God is truly amazing! No
one else could do such an awesome
thing.
Psalm 9:1-2
I will praise you, O LORD, with all
my heart;
I will tell of all your wonders.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O
Most High.
(from New International Version)
I know there are many
who are saddened by the ending of summer and the
coming of fall. To some it means the end of
fun in the sun and the beginning of cold, lonely
days and nights. We often compare our lives to
the changing seasons - spring representing the
beginning of our lives and winter representing the
final days. Therefore, as the seasons change
we are reminded of our fleeting lives. To many
this brings sadness for different reasons. If
we could only find some way to rejoice in the
changing of the earth's seasons as well as the
seasons of our lives. If we could live each
"season" as if it were the best and as if we are
looking forward to the very best "season" of all -
eternity in Heaven.
Of course, there is a
way. It takes a new mindset. A new way
of thinking. When we can keep our hearts and
minds focused on the will of God, then we can look forward to each day as a new
beginning, as a new path on our spiritual journey.
We can look forward to living our lives for God and
not look back with sadness on the things that we
never accomplished. When we live out God's
will, we will have accomplished what is really
important.
What thoughts come to your mind when
fall begins?
Do you enjoy the changes in the air,
the colors, the different activities
surrounding fall? Do you look
forward to the changing seasons,
especially our "season" in Heaven?
Or do you dread all the changes?
Take time to reflect on your life
and what makes you think the way you
do? Is it time for you to stop
being sad and start rejoicing?
Why not ask God to help you?
If you are already rejoicing, is
there someone else who needs your
prayers to help them start
rejoicing? Why not take time
right now to remember them and keep
them in your daily prayers? Maybe a little note throughout the
fall and winter seasons will help
them focus on God and the joy that
comes from serving Him.
Take
time to breathe in the cool, crisp
air and thank God for letting you be
part of His wonderful family!
It truly is a remarkable life!
